If you are wondering why this is so, look no further. Samsung was able to cut cost from the just released S21 series by making changes in the following areas:

Another obvious reason is to stay competitive, lower pricing is something we consumers are always looking at. One of its biggest competition, Apple, has an entry point of $699 dollars for the iPhone 12 Mini, because who wouldn’t want the option to own a premium smartphone for a lesser price? That being said, let’s see the changes Samsung made to be able to cut the cost of its new flagship series. SEE: What’s Special About the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

Display

Deviating from its norm in the S-series, Samsung decided to go with the conventional flat display rather than its usual curved display. The thing is, curved displays cost more to make and by ditching that, Samsung was able to cut cost. Also, the FHD+ resolution of the S21 and S21 Plus is lower in comparison to the QHD+ display on the S20 and S20 Plus.
However, the upside here is that the battery will last longer considering the S20s were really not that great in that aspect. On the other hand, the S21 Ultra maintains the QHD+ resolution although it also comes with a flat display instead of the curved one.

Build

This only applies to the Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphone and its glasstic back. Instead of the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the Samsung Galaxy S20, the S21 opts for a plastic-based glass back. Nonetheless, this does not look like a deal breaker considering glass is more likely to break, Corning Gorilla glass or not and some prefer the former. Plus, the plastic based glass on the S21 looks fairly convincing. Read More: Samsung Galaxy Buds Live: 5 Things You Should Know

Going with the same E-waste mantra Apple came with, Samsung is also ditching the power adapter, so it only comes with a USB-C cable. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S21 series will not come with earphones like the S20 did. While this serves the E-waste propaganda, it also helps save cost, hence, the lesser price of the smartphones. However, the company has reduced the price of the charger from $34.99 to $19 for those that want to cop one.

Conclusion

The end result of this changes is a $799 price for the Samsung Galaxy S21 compared to the $999 launch price of the S20, $999 for the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus to S20’s $1,199 launch price and S1, 199 price of the S21 Ultra to $1, 399 that was the launch price of the S20 Ultra. The S21/ S21 Plus and S21 Ultra smartphones are available for pre-order now with a clear cut $200 difference from the S20 series launch price and a free gift of Galaxy Buds Live, Galaxy Buds Pro or the Galaxy SmartTag.
